graphic novel Bone : out of boneville

Out of Boneville is a thoroughly enjoyable book. I actually read the vol 7 before I read vol 1 but still I liked the book. I am planning to read the whole series now.
There are parallels to the Lord of the Rings books. The story starts with Bones who are strange looking people. The Hobbits were having a grand party when Frodo receives the ring and the adventure starts. The Bone series starts with Phoney, Fone and Smiley being kicked out of their town. They get separated when a swarm of locusts attack them. That is the start of the magnificent adventure. We have dragons, rat like creatures, locusts and humans. In the LOTR, we had hobbits, dwarves, elves, humans, orcs and an assorted array of villains. LOTR's canvas was huge. The whole of the medieval Earth was being talked of. The canvas of Bone is not less though it seems content in letting action revolve around Thorn. Well, there is no ring to be destroyed in Bone but we do have the lord of the locusts trying to get Thorn to complete some ritual to manifest itself just like the evil Sauron who wants to obtain the ring at all costs. If I find any more parallels, I will update this post.

The artwork is fabulous and the dialogues are great. They all speak English so that is easier for us to follow. LOTR was made difficult because Tolkien wanted every species to have its own dialect. The constant chattering among Phoney, Fone and Smiley is amusing though sometimes I wanted someone to knock some sense into Phoney :-)

I must say, after a dose of Bleach (vol 1 to 6), I wanted to read something different and Bone series is what I truly needed. Once Bone series is over, I will go back to the Bleach series. I have invested too much of my time in Ichigo's world. I have to know what happens next. But for now, it is Fone Bone and Thorn and their multiple adventures.
