fast fold poker games

Two months back I had heard about the concept of fast fold poker games. At that time all that I could understand was that the player can do a Fast Fold if he doesn't like his cards and if so then he would be moved to a new table where game once again begins.

This whole week I have done nothing but to study it more and to think of the changes that I need to put to integrate it.
On a Fast Fold table (it goes by other names like Zoom Poker, Rush Poker), a player can indeed do a Fast Fold but then he can also have the option of not going to another table. He has to express this desire like pressing control key but once he does this he will see two tables open up for him. One is the old table where he has done Fold but which has not yet been announced to other players. So he can watch the whole game if he so wants to.

The player can express his desire to move to a new table by either pressing on Switch Table button or the game would automatically move him when he presses Fast fold. However if a new table can't be conjured, the player will keep on seeing the "Initializing table" for some seconds.

The least number of players that I saw on a new table had 2 members. The most that I saw was 6 players. But then I understand that there could be up to 9 or 10 players too.

For some time I was confused about the status of big blinds. Then I found out that the players are put in a list. Everytime a player makes a big blind he is moved to the back of the list. On a table the game checks how many players are there who have to make big blind. A new player has to make a big blind when he joins table. An old player will do it only after some hands have been completed. Care has to be taken that all players make equal amount of big blinds. That is why I think that it is better if a table has minimum of 4 players. If I allow table with 2 players, then a player will be paying big blind for many hands.

Same thing has to be done for small blind. For dealer, it is random. Anyone can become dealer. Similarly any player can sit on any seat.

The move time has to be reduced by half so if normal table sees 30 seconds as move timer a fast fold table will have only 15 second as move timer.

If a hand finishes on a table, all the players are moved to a new table. Care is taken that these players don't play with each other. Again I see issues if we keep less number of players in the pool.

If there are less players who can be seated on one table, then game is continued on that table itself. At least this is true for tournaments. For ring table also I can use this concept.

The game essentially remains same. Only change is that players move about on various tables a lot. However this causes a lot of changes to player strategies. Lot many pundits claim that it is better to play aggressive games on fast fold tables for hands duration is going to be shorter. That could be true. Game play isn't the same with the normal tables. Perhaps when we work on bots, we will have to add this logic to them, to fold when cards don't have a pair even after flop.

bone graphic novels are done and dusted

I finally read the 9th and final part of the Bone comics. I must say I am very impressed with it. I plan to now buy all the comics. The story is fantastic and in some places absurd. Thorn begins to fly. Dragons seem to be very angry but then suddenly go after their own queen. Still I admired the artwork and the story was simply breathtaking. Phoney does not give up stealing what is not his and gets his comeuppance at the hands of Grandma Ben and Smiley.

Most importantly, the author never failed to surprise me. Some of the twists of the plots were unexpected. And the artwork was simply divine. The way the author went about making each character so likeable is outstanding. In one of the panels, Smiley comments to Bartleby that he never got a friend like him before. Bartleby remarks "Me Too" and both of them look so happy. In another panel, Smiley cooks up quiche for the 2 rat creatures. News about Grandma Ben gone missing makes Smiley put the quiche away from the reach of the rat creatures. The look on those creatures' faces is so funny. The panel when the lord of the locusts begins to get out of his prison and Briar is seen dancing with the pose of her clapping hands over her head is very well done.

The story starts with the Bone being chased out of Boneville and ends with all three of them heading back to Boneville. The end brought bitter sweet feelings. Well done, Jeff Smith. Truly well done!

graphic novel Bone : out of boneville

Out of Boneville is a thoroughly enjoyable book. I actually read the vol 7 before I read vol 1 but still I liked the book. I am planning to read the whole series now.
There are parallels to the Lord of the Rings books. The story starts with Bones who are strange looking people. The Hobbits were having a grand party when Frodo receives the ring and the adventure starts. The Bone series starts with Phoney, Fone and Smiley being kicked out of their town. They get separated when a swarm of locusts attack them. That is the start of the magnificent adventure. We have dragons, rat like creatures, locusts and humans. In the LOTR, we had hobbits, dwarves, elves, humans, orcs and an assorted array of villains. LOTR's canvas was huge. The whole of the medieval Earth was being talked of. The canvas of Bone is not less though it seems content in letting action revolve around Thorn. Well, there is no ring to be destroyed in Bone but we do have the lord of the locusts trying to get Thorn to complete some ritual to manifest itself just like the evil Sauron who wants to obtain the ring at all costs. If I find any more parallels, I will update this post.

The artwork is fabulous and the dialogues are great. They all speak English so that is easier for us to follow. LOTR was made difficult because Tolkien wanted every species to have its own dialect. The constant chattering among Phoney, Fone and Smiley is amusing though sometimes I wanted someone to knock some sense into Phoney :-)

I must say, after a dose of Bleach (vol 1 to 6), I wanted to read something different and Bone series is what I truly needed. Once Bone series is over, I will go back to the Bleach series. I have invested too much of my time in Ichigo's world. I have to know what happens next. But for now, it is Fone Bone and Thorn and their multiple adventures.
